Angry Birds Maker to Launch Bad Piggies

 By David Jackson.

So you spend most of your idle time playing Angry Birds but secretly crave that there would have been a better game than this highly addictive offering, then it seems your wishes are finally being answered. Finally there is good news for all those million users who are tired of playing Angry Birds for the last three years. Angry Birds maker Rovio is going to launch Bad Piggies today.

The new game will feature the pigs striking back at the birds that attacked them with slingshots in Angry Birds. In Bad Piggies, instead of shooting with a slingshot, players will build vehicles that enable the characters get hold of the eggs laid down by the birds.

With the new launch, the company hopes that its latest effort will shun the critics and prove its 2009 hit was not a one time miracle. Founded in 2003, Rovio tasted worldwide success with the launch of Angry Birds for Apple’s iPhone in the last quarter of 2009.

Angry Birds became a raving success overnight helping Rovio’s sales witness a 10-fold increase and reach $100 million. The game remained at the top of gaming charts with over a billion downloads with over 200 million monthly users by the end of the year 2011.

However recently there are enough signs to suggest that Rovio is losing the momentum it gathered over the last three years. Rovio’s Amazing Alex is the first and only non-Angry Birds game in over two years to hit the numero uno spot on download charts in July but since then has slumped out of the top 50 list. Moreover, Angry Birds Space has also vanished quickly from the top-grossing lists.

According to Finland-based analytics company Alekstra, over the last two months, the revenue generation ability of Rovio has gone down badly. In order to sustain in the market, Rovio needs a big hit right now. Only time will tell that whether the new game is able to breathe new life in the brand or not.
